01 · Quick answer

The easiest ways to get to Pitti Palace

Most visitors arrive on foot from the centre, or by bus to the Pitti stop. Taxi is the simplest choice with luggage. Use the right-hand entrance on Piazza Pitti, then follow your ticket or meeting instructions on site.

01 Best overall

Walking from the old centre

This works well from Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi side and nearby hotels in the historic centre. The route is short and direct, but the final square rises toward the façade.

  • Direct surface route
  • No transfer
  • Best for light luggage
At the bridge Cross Ponte Vecchio, then follow Via de’ Guicciardini to Piazza de’ Pitti.
02 Convenient

Bus to the Pitti stop

The city bus stop named Pitti is the official stop to use when you want to avoid a long walk. It suits travellers coming from inside Florence who want the closest practical stop.

  • Route numbers listed
  • Central Florence stop
  • Check live service
At the stop Get off at Pitti and walk up the square to the façade on Piazza Pitti.
03 Good nearby

Taxi or ride drop-off

Use this if you have bags, mobility limits or want the shortest approach from another district. Ask for Piazza de’ Pitti, not a general area pin.

  • Simple drop-off
  • Best with luggage
  • Check the traffic
At the drop-off Ask the driver to stop near Piazza de’ Pitti, then walk to the right side of the façade.
04 Direct surface route

From Santa Maria Novella

Walk if you prefer a single route through the centre, or use a city bus connection if you do not want the full walk. There is no metro in Florence.

  • Main station start
  • No metro
  • City-centre transfer only
At the station Follow the centre signs, then continue on foot to Piazza de’ Pitti or use a city bus.
05 No transfers

From the airport

There is no direct airport stop for the palace. The practical airport plan is to reach Florence first, then continue by taxi, bus or train and walk the final stretch.

  • Arrival day only
  • Use city transfer
  • Allow extra time
At the airport Do not time your ticket to the landing. Build in baggage, transfer and the final walk.
06 Convenient

From nearby hotels

If you stay in the centre or Oltrarno, walking is often easier than changing transport. Check whether your route crosses Ponte Vecchio or Via de’ Guicciardini.

  • Short city walk
  • Best for early visits
  • Easy to confirm on maps
At the street corner Keep the address open and head for Piazza de’ Pitti, 1.
07 Best with luggage

Taxi from the station or hotel

Choose taxi when you have bags, mobility concerns or a tight schedule. It is the clearest choice if you want the driver to handle the traffic and drop you close.

  • Door-to-door
  • No route changes
  • Easy with bags
At the curb Show the address and ask for the right-hand visitor entrance on Piazza Pitti.
02 · Entrance first

Go to the right side of Piazza Pitti, not the old central door

Reaching the palace is not the same as reaching the correct doorway. The normal visitor entrance is now on the right side of the main façade, close to the ticket office. Exit uses the central doorway.

Individual visitors

Right side of the main façade, facing Piazza Pitti

This is the normal visitor entrance. It sits near the ticket office and the security check.

  • Have your ticket ready.
  • Follow the entrance on the right side.
  • Do not queue at the old central door.
All visitors leaving

Central doorway for exit

Use the central doorway when you leave. Do not use it as the main entry point.

  • Keep the exit in mind if you plan a taxi.
  • Do not reverse the entry route at the end.
  • Follow on-site signs if the flow changes.
Royal Apartments and timed visits

First-floor meeting point in the Palatine Gallery entrance hall

The Royal Apartments do not use the street entrance as the meeting point. You must reach the first-floor meeting area on time.

  • Bring ticket and ID.
  • Follow the meeting-point note on your voucher.
  • Do not arrive at the palace door and stop there.
Family groups and luggage

Entrance side with the shortest indoor start

Use the right-hand entry if you need the cloakroom or lifts. It keeps the start of the visit close to the services you may need.

  • Leave large bags in the cloakroom.
  • Use the courtyard lifts for upper floors.
  • Do not bring bulky items into the galleries.
!
The entrance mistake that costs time

People still walk to the centre door because the façade looks obvious. Use the right side of the main façade for entry, and keep the central doorway for exit only.

03 · Metro

Florence has no metro stop for Pitti Palace

There is no metro line to use here. If you are arriving by train or from another part of Florence, use bus, taxi or a walk from the centre instead.

No metro

Use another mode

Do not look for a metro station near Piazza Pitti. Florence does not have a metro system for this trip.

  1. Leave the station or hotel area by bus, taxi or on foot.
  2. Head for Piazza de’ Pitti, 1.
  3. Use the right-hand entrance on the façade.
  4. Check the current service if you are changing buses.
Best substitute

City bus or walking

For most visitors, the nearest practical answer is the Pitti bus stop or a direct walk from the centre.

  1. Choose the line or route that reaches the centre.
  2. Get off at Pitti or cross Ponte Vecchio on foot.
  3. Walk up to the square.
  4. Use the right side of the main façade.

Florence has no metro. Use the city transport operator’s live journey planner and service notices before you travel.

04 · Bus

The listed bus routes for the Pitti stop

The current route list names the Pitti stop and the central lines C1, C3 and C4. Use live service on the day, since central Florence diversions are common.

C1

Central Florence service

Good if you are already in the city centre and want the Pitti stop without a long walk.

C3

Central Florence service

Useful for travellers moving across the centre. Check the direction before boarding.

C4

Central Florence service

Another listed route for the Pitti stop. Confirm live service before you leave.

Live planning

Check the day’s service

Buses in the historic centre can change because of roadworks, events and access limits. Check the live route and stop status before setting out.

05 · From popular areas

Simple routes from the places visitors usually start

These are route patterns, not minute-by-minute promises. Check live service on the day if you plan to use a bus.

Starting pointSimple routeWhy it worksFinal step
Santa Maria Novella Taxi, or bus and short walk Best if you arrive with bags or want to avoid a long central walk. Get off or drop near the centre, then follow the address to Piazza de’ Pitti.
Uffizi / Piazza della Signoria Walk via Ponte Vecchio Direct, central and easy to recognise. Cross the bridge, take Via de’ Guicciardini, then climb into Piazza Pitti.
Ponte Vecchio Walk south on Via de’ Guicciardini Shortest clear walk from the river crossing. Keep going until the square opens in front of the palace.
Oltrarno hotels Walk Usually faster than changing transport for a nearby stay. Use the address and head for the right side of the façade.
Florence airport arrival Airport transfer into the city, then taxi or bus There is no direct airport stop at the palace. Reach Florence first, then finish on foot from the city drop-off.
Duomo / historic centre Walk across the centre Works well if you want a simple route with no changes. Keep the palace address open and follow the final street signs.
06 · Airport

From Florence Airport, reach the city first, then continue to Pitti Palace

There is no direct airport stop at the palace. The easiest plan is to get into Florence, then use taxi, bus or a walk for the final approach.

Public transport

Airport to the city, then onward

Use your arrival transfer into Florence first. From there, finish with a taxi, bus or walk to Piazza de’ Pitti.

  1. Leave the airport with your city transfer.
  2. Reach the centre or Santa Maria Novella area.
  3. Change to taxi, bus or walking for the last stretch.
Taxi

Best if you have luggage

A taxi is the clearest option after a flight if you want a direct drop-off and a simpler final approach.

  1. Take the airport taxi into Florence.
  2. Show the driver Piazza de’ Pitti, 1.
  3. Walk to the right side of the main façade.
!
The airport timing mistake

Do not book a timed visit based on landing time alone. Add baggage, the transfer into Florence and the walk to the entrance. If you can, drop luggage first and travel light for the palace visit.

07 · Train station

From Santa Maria Novella, keep the route simple and finish at the correct side of the palace

01 Follow the centre signs

Leave the station and head toward the historic centre instead of looking for a metro.

02 Choose bus, taxi or walk

Taxi is easiest with bags. Walking works if you are comfortable with a central route.

03 Use the palace address

Finish at Piazza de’ Pitti, 1, then use the right-hand entrance on the façade.

08 · Walking

Walking works well if you are already in central Florence

The route looks short on a map, but the square rises toward the façade and pedestrian streets can slow you down. Use the address, not the silhouette, when you get close.

Good walking route

From Ponte Vecchio to Piazza Pitti

This is the clearest walk for first-time visitors. The route is direct and easy to read.

  • Cross Ponte Vecchio.
  • Follow Via de’ Guicciardini.
  • When the square opens, stop and use the right-side entrance.
Practical central walk

From the Uffizi side

Useful if you are already near Piazza della Signoria or the Uffizi. It is simple, but traffic lights and crowd flow can slow it down.

  • Keep the palace address open.
  • Watch for the square rising toward the façade.
  • Switch from map view to the entrance note when you arrive.
09 · Taxi, car & parking

Taxi is the easiest road option; parking is a separate problem

The palace sits in a pedestrian area. A driver can drop you close, but you should not expect to park at the door.

Taxi

Ask for Piazza de’ Pitti, 1

Use the exact address and ask for a drop-off close to the square. Then walk to the right side of the façade.

Driving

Plan parking before you leave

Do not rely on driving up to the entrance. Choose a public car park first, then finish the last part on foot.

Drop-off reality

Expect traffic limits

Historic-centre traffic rules can keep cars away from the actual door. The map pin is not always a legal stop point.

10 · Accessibility

Check access at the station, the square and the entrance

A nearby stop does not mean a step-free arrival. The approach across Piazza Pitti rises to the façade, and the entrance side matters if you need lifts or assistance.

Approach slope

The final approach across Piazza Pitti rises toward the façade. Allow extra time if you use a wheelchair, push a stroller or carry heavy bags.

Lifts and upper floors

Use the lifts on the right side of the main courtyard for upper museum floors. Do not assume every room route is equally easy.

Entrance choice

Use the right-hand visitor entrance, close to the ticket office. It is the correct side for the normal entry flow.

Confirm before travelling

Accessibility can vary by entrance and ticket type. Check the current access information before you leave.

11 · Security & bags

Travel light for the cloakroom and security check

Large bags, backpacks, umbrellas and other bulky items must go in the free cloakroom before you enter the galleries. Metal-detector screening applies at the entrance.

Bags

Use the cloakroom

Leave umbrellas, cumbersome bags, backpacks and other large objects in the free cloakroom on the right side of the courtyard.

Security

Expect screening

Visitors may pass through metal-detector checks. Keep your ticket and identity document ready if asked.

Prohibited items

Do not carry sharp or dangerous items

Knives, firearms and other dangerous materials are not allowed. Drones are also prohibited.

Food and drink

No eating in the galleries

Eating and drinking are prohibited in exhibition areas. Smoking and vaping are also not allowed.

i
Keep the ticket offline

Save your ticket, the meeting-point note and the address before you leave the hotel. Do the same for transport directions, so you are not searching your inbox at the entrance.

12 · Timing

Arrive early enough to find the right door

Work back from the time on your ticket or meeting note. The entrance, security check and final walk all take time, especially if you are coming from the station or airport.

Independent ticket

Plan for the last walk and the entrance

The station or bus stop is not the door. Add time for the final walk across the square and the right-side entry check.

  • Check the date and entrance note.
  • Add time for the last approach.
  • Do not assume the central door is for entry.
Guided or timed visit

The meeting time is the deadline

If your visit uses a timed meeting point, the voucher time matters more than the palace opening time. Late arrival can cost you the slot.

  • Save the meeting-point note.
  • Allow time to reach the first floor.
  • Do not wait at the street entrance if the voucher says otherwise.
13 · Nearby orientation

Landmarks that confirm you are on the right side

Street names and square edges are better than a distant building shape. Use these cues to confirm the entry side before you queue.

01 Entrance side

Right side of the main façade

This confirms the correct visitor entry. If you are facing the palace from Piazza Pitti, the entrance is on the right-hand side near the ticket office.

Best use Use it before you join any queue.
02 Street cue

Via de’ Guicciardini

This is the key walking street from Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi side. It leads you into Piazza de’ Pitti.

Remember Follow the street, then check the right-hand entrance.
03 Square cue

Piazza de’ Pitti

If you are in the square, you are close. The palace façade is the reference point, but the entry is still on the right side.

Useful clue Use the square to confirm you are at the correct address.
04 Exit cue

Central doorway

This is the exit side. If you see the central doorway and are planning to enter, stop and check the on-site signs first.

Remember Entry and exit are not the same at this palace.
05 Transport cue

Pitti bus stop

Use this stop when you want the closest bus arrival. It helps if you do not want to cross the whole centre on foot.

Best use Get off, then walk up to Piazza de’ Pitti.
14 · Final checklist

Use the last five minutes to avoid the wrong door

A correct route only helps if you end at the right entrance with the right ticket ready. Check these points before you leave the station, hotel or taxi.

Confirm the exact address

Use Piazza de’ Pitti, 1, 50125 Firenze FI, Italy, not a general centre pin.

Check the current entrance note

Entry is on the right side of the main façade. The central doorway is for exit.

Check live transport on the day

Buses and city traffic can change. Confirm service before you leave.

Travel light for security

Large bags, umbrellas and backpacks go in the cloakroom before you enter the galleries.

Save the ticket offline

Keep the ticket, the meeting point and your transport directions on your phone.

Check battery and signal

You may need the address, the voucher and a map at the entrance.

Ready to go

The simplest plan for getting to Pitti Palace

01 Set the correct destination

Use Piazza de’ Pitti, 1, then head for the right side of the main façade.

02 Choose the transport

Walk from the centre, or use the Pitti bus stop. Taxi is simplest with luggage.

03 Arrive before your deadline

Allow time for the final walk, security and any timed meeting point on your voucher.
